The Alta Mira Dragon House began life as a bridge  over the Sacramento River. The bridge was dismantled and the oversized lumber was brought to this 1/2 acre + knoll overlooking the Edna Valley by local architect Roger Marshall in 1967. The irreplaceable lumber used throughout the house is old growth/first growth redwood that was time and weather textured and can never be harvested again. Floor to ceiling windows throughout the living spaces provide commanding views of Edna Valley, 4 of the Seven Sisters and the Serpentine Hills.
The combination of tall ceilings, wide open views, expansive windows and skylights with year round natural light and spacious rooms create a strong sense of space and freedom. The surrounding nature with large neighboring properties and open spaces and the home’s outdoor features add to the lure of this enchanting, resort like property. Wandering paths encircle the property and lead one from an ancient California Live Oak tree to a maze of hanging Chardonnay grape vines to a rustic fire pit to a pool and jacuzzi deck to a Koi pond with overhead water feature to various outdoor benches, gazebos, staircases and gates.
